Aftercare Advice

I use three methods of aftercare. Depending on which one you left the studio with, depends on how you look after your new tattoo. I'll always explain in the studio on how to care for your new tattoo however, when we are excited with our new tattoo it's easy to forget. Please see below to remind yourself on how to properly care for your new tattoo and do not hesitate to contact me if you need any advice.

Second Skin

"Second skin" most commonly refers to a thin, medical-grade transparent adhesive film used to protect fresh tattoos and minor wounds while they heal. It is a breathable, waterproof polyurethane (PU) and PET film placed directly over a new tattoo.

It seals in the body's natural healing fluids, locks out dirt, bacteria, and friction from clothing, and prevents premature drying or scabbing.

Tattoo Armour

Tattoo Armour is a specialized, breathable Tattoo Armour Aftercare Pads dressing system designed to protect fresh tattoos, absorb excess plasma, and prevent scabbing during the crucial early healing phase.

A multi-layer core soaks up extra blood, ink, and plasma without sticking to the fresh wound. A soft top layer cushions the tattoo against clothing and bedding.

Cream & Clingfilm

Clingfilm is the original and most used form of initial aftercare when leaving a tattoo studio.

It helps keep any debris and friction from harming a fresh tattoo for the first few hours but must be removed earlier than the other two options.

Caring for your new tattoo

Please remember not to have baths (yes you can shower), swim, go in hot tubs, pick, scratch or do heavy gym sessions for at least two weeks after your new tattoo.

Second Skin

  • Leave the second skin on for 1-3 days. There will be some plasma leakage under the second skin - nothing to worry about. However, if the plasma leaks out of the second skin, please take it off straight away to prevent any bacteria getting trapped inside.

  • Remove the second skin like a command strip (pull down from the bottom, away from the body).

  • Wash your new tattoo well with water - removing all plasma and excess ink. Dab dry with a paper towel.

  • If your tattoo is a large/ heavy colour piece then repeat the three steps above again.

  • Moisturise your new tattoo lightly for upto two weeks 3+ times a day until all the scabs have gone.

  • NB: Some people can have reactions to the adhesive. If you feel you are having an allergic reaction (extremely red and blistered) - take it off straight away and follow the "Cream & Clingfilm" aftercare advice. It is normal for some redness to appear with second skin.

Tattoo Armour

  • Leave the Tattoo Armour on until the following morning.

  • Remove the pad under running water (e.g. during your shower).

  • Wash your new tattoo well with water, removing all plasma and excess ink. Dab the tattoo dry with a paper towel.

  • Apply a tattoo ointment onto the new tattoo and recover with the second pad.

  • Remove the Tattoo Armour the following day 12-24 hours after the second application and repeat the steps above.

  • Moisturise your new tattoo lightly for upto two weeks 3+ times a day until all the scabs have gone.

Cream & Clingfilm

  • Leave the clingfilm on for an 1-3 hours.

  • Wash your new tattoo well with water, removing all plasma and excess ink. Dab the tattoo dry with a paper towel.

  • Moisturise your new tattoo lightly for upto two weeks 3+ times a day until all the scabs have gone.
